AI is on track to transform the world. This brings many challenges and opportunities: alignment, power concentration, digital rights, an industrial explosion.
To reach a great outcome, we need people to tackle big problems. This is a list of some challenges that we think are important and under-explored, and that we'd be well placed to advise on.
If you want to take on one of these challenges, we're interested in supporting you through our Founders-in-Residence programme.
We want to help you to solve these problems
We're turning our ideas into action through our Founders-in-Residence programme.
As a fellow on the programme, you'll spend 3 months with us developing a minimum proof of concept for a solution to (a part of) an important problem, and come up with a plan to implement it. We may offer extensions of up to 12 months total, and we have $10m to give away in seed funding.
You don't need to know exactly what you'll work on to apply. The list above is a good place to start, or you might find a different problem in our research areas that you're keen to solve. We're excited to help you iterate towards the right idea.
We're accepting rolling expressions of interest. We'll reply if we're interested in testing fit further, but we won't respond by default.
- Mentorship: Regular group check-ins with our leadership team (of repeat founders). Plus 1on1s, feedback on plans, etc.
- Expertise: Access to researchers who've thought deeply about the problems you're working on.
- Salary: Salary of $200k+, plus generous benefits for the duration of the programme.
- Seed funding: And advice on future funding applications.
People with strong strategic judgement and the ability to figure out underscoped things, who are ambitious, hardworking, autonomous, and relentlessly resourceful, and who are motivated to work on the most high-impact problems. You could be a particularly good fit if:
- You have founded, run or scaled an organisation (particularly if focused on the transition to superintelligence);
- You have excelled within a fast-moving, mission-driven organisation;
- You're early in your career but have already demonstrated exceptional initiative, judgement, and commitment to working on the world's most pressing problems.
3 months initially, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months in total. We prefer you to spend at least half of your time working from our offices in Oxford or Berkeley, though we're also excited about you visiting other hubs like DC and London.
